Azure Infrastructure Engineer

On behalf of Crown Commercial Services, we are looking for an Azure Infrastructure Engineer (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract. Hybrid working with 2 days per week in either Birmingham, Liverpool or Norwich.

We are seeking an experienced Azure engineer to support both our upcoming initiatives and ongoing operations.

This role is essential for addressing several key areas:
. Security Remediation: Respond to findings from the recent British Library breach, as identified by the CCS Assurance team. The breach generated actionable items that require prompt resolution.
. Project Support: Assist the Data Insights team with the heightened workload from the "Insights with Impact" (IwI) project, currently in progress with focus on Microsoft Purview.
. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning(ML) Enhancement: Provide infrastructure support for the increased demands and requirements arising from the AI/ML team's initiatives.
. Business-as-Usual Operations: Contribute to the management of our Azure estate, handling the general increase in BAU workload and facilitating ongoing improvements.

As an Azure Infrastructure Engineer your main responsibilities will be to:
. Address findings from a recent security review of the British Library breach.
. Respond to tickets/requests from internal teams, with a focus on Purview, Logic Apps & Database management.
. Support infrastructure needs of the AI/ML teams.
. Manage tickets and emails, ensuring timely responses.
. Contribute to both project based and BAU Azure related work, including support for other Gov UK departments hosted on CCS infrastructure.
. Deliver improved responsiveness, enhanced support for Azure-related tasks, and effective implementation of security and governance measures across the estate.

Essential:
. Strong proficiency in Azure, with hands on experience in Logic Apps, Function Apps, Data Warehouses, general database management.
. Several years' experience in Azure environments, with familiarity in Entra ID and Azure Defender best practices.
. Solid understanding of Azure security principles including Policy Management and Microsoft Purview.
. Proven experience designing, building, and operating production workloads in Azure, including optimisation, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
. Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and Azure DevOps pipelines, with a strong focus on automation, repeatability, security, and compliance. Familiarity with Azure Purview is ideal.

SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
