Job Description
Autonomic Clinical Research Fellow

Closing date: 30 June 2026

Contract: 3 year Full Time Fixed Term

We are pleased to invite applications for a 3 year fixed term post as an Autonomic Clinical Research Fellow. This post is designed for an autonomic fellow who has completed training in neurology. The successful applicant will support the nationally and internationally recognised Autonomic Unit based at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

Main duties

The Autonomic Unit pioneers translation of autonomic research into clinical practice and collaborates with national, European and international societies and task forces. Clinical Autonomic Scientists work with clinicians to underpin the clinical service with a strong evidence base. They have devised and implemented new diagnostic tests for central and peripheral autonomic function and novel treatments, and pioneered non invasive techniques to investigate pathophysiological mechanisms in autonomic disorders.

The team has established additional patient pathways including autonomic assessment, rehabilitation, and immunotherapy for severe but treatable autonomic failure conditions such as autoimmune autonomic ganglionopathy. A new adolescent service and a diagnostic assessment for postganglionic sudomotor dysfunction have also been introduced. The expanding patient spectrum requires a senior specialist in autonomic neurology to lead assessment and treatment of autonomic failure.
