Job Title: Automation Test Engineer - Java/Selenium

Location: Northampton/hybrid

Salary/Rate: Up to £315 per day INSIDE IR35

Start Date: 22/09/2025

Job Type: Contract until end of 2026

Company Introduction: We have an exciting opportunity now available with one of our sector-leading financial services clients! They are currently looking for a skilled Automation Test Engineer to join their team for a contract until the end of 2026.

Responsibilities/Objectives

You'll be joining a development team made up of five talented developers and one tester. Together, you'll support and enhance a suite of 8-9 microservices, adding value through quality-driven processes and meaningful documentation.

• Development and implementation of comprehensive test plans and strategies to validate software functionality and ensure compliance with established quality standards.
• Creation and execution automated test scripts, leveraging testing frameworks and tools to facilitate early detection of defects and quality issues.
• Collaboration with cross-functional teams to analyse requirements, participate in design discussions, and contribute to the development of acceptance criteria, ensuring a thorough understanding of the software being tested.
• Root cause analysis for identified defects, working closely with developers to provide detailed information and support defect resolution.
• Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.

Required Skills/Experience

The ideal candidate will have the following:

• Experience in test automation using Selenium/Playwright, BDD cucumber, Java is essential.
• Experience in using API testing tools like postman, Insomnia.
• Banking/Financial, Cards and Payments services experience preferred.
• Experience in Functional and Non-Functional testing: Including regression, integration, user acceptance to verify the quality and functionality of feature using automation framework.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum methodology.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

• Experience in running automation test cases with CI/CD, Jenkins.
• Experience in Test Management tools like JIRA, Confluence.
• Experience in Performance testing tools like Jmeter, and monitoring tool like AppD.
• Experience in using Karate framework.
