ABOUT THE ROLEThis fixed term teaching role (maternity cover) is designed to support delivery across key modules in structural engineering, focusing on structural engineering teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The post holder will work with academic colleagues to support the development of next generation civil engineers, equipped to lead in an era of climate aware and performance driven design.
The post holder will use their background in structural engineering to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in advanced structural analysis and design. They will lead and support teaching on topics including:
- Structural mechanics (1st year undergraduate)
- Sustainable design of steel and composite structures (3rd year undergraduate)
- Structural behaviour and design of complex and sustainable structures, including challenging environments and load scenarios (MSc)
The role will also involve delivering project based and studio based learning in structural design modules at undergraduate level.
This is a maternity cover role with an end date of 31st of March 2027 in the first instance.

ABOUT YOUKey requirement of the role are:
- A PhD (or to be close to completion) in structural engineering equivalent level
- Evidence of strong backgrounds in structural engineering by means of publishing in top academic journals and presenting at the most well regarded conferences.
- Strong background in structural mechanics, analysis of complex structures, and structural design.
- Proven track record of working effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in marking coursework (essays, exam papers, and presentations) and giving constructive feedback to students.
