We have an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to join the teaching team on the MSc/MA Specialist Psychology programmes for the following module:

• Approaches to Research Synthesis, Level 7
• 25 hours of teaching
• Tuesday afternoons 2-4:30pm

Your role will be to deliver teaching to Birkbeck students, in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully and undertake all related course administrative duties as required.Main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration, assessment and marking of the Approaches to Research Synthesis module, offered as part of our MSc/MA Specialist Psychology programmes.

The Approaches to Evidence Synthesis module covers a range of approaches to the synthesis of research evidence that students will come across in their reading and during their careers. Approaches covered include narrative reviews, systematic reviews, meta-analysis, synthesis of qualitative data, and scoping reviews. The module will cover practical approaches to undertaking evidence synthesis. The module is assessed by (1) and protocol worksheet and (2) a 2500 word mini systematic review.

Classes start on Tuesday 12th January 2027 for 10 sessions. Reading week is 16th February, where no class will take place. Coursework for this module will be submitted in February 2026 and May 2026.aIn addition to the criteria specified in the job pack, the minimum requirements for selection are:

• A degree in Psychology.
• Pursuing or completed a postgraduate degree in Psychology or related area.
• An excellent understanding of the ethical and reflective practice and the application of psychology to a variety of work contexts.
• An understanding of communication, relationships and emotions in the workplace and work-related stress (or a willingness to explore these).
• Relevant teaching experience, working with adult students within the HE sector.
• A good understanding of the needs of full and part-time adult learners and be able to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm.
• Experience of (or willingness to develop) a wide range of teaching and assessment methods.
• Demonstrably effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills across a range of relevant contexts.
• A working knowledge of IT including Word, Excel, e-mail and experience of (or willingness to use) Moodle & Teams.
• Particularly able to work both as part of a team and independently as appropriate.
• Willing to engage in reflective practice.

Remuneration:

Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £69.68 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a 'Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier' at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
