Associate Lecturer - Volcanism in the Solar System

Birkbeck, University of London seeks an Associate Lecturer to join the teaching team and support the School of Natural Sciences this Autumn 2026.

Responsibilities

Support the module "Volcanism in the Solar System", a Level 6 module requiring 30 hours of contact, scheduled Tuesday evenings 6-9pm.

• Deliver lecture and practical classes, including analogue experiments, petrological study, and satellite data analysis.
• Secure and manage any relevant extra terrestrial samples.
• Prepare, teach, administer, assess and mark work, and undertake further duties relating to teaching.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess knowledge of volcanic processes and products relevant to Earth and other planetary bodies and experience teaching related topics.

• Qualified to the relevant level required to teach, or demonstrate equivalent professional/industry experience.

Remuneration

Hourly rate of £69.68 per hour inclusive of the pro rata London Allowance and holiday pay. The rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and includes a duties related to teaching multiplier of 2.5.

Contract

Fixed term, part time contract teaching from October to December 2026.
