Job Description

The post holder will support the Head of School in the Strategic Development of the School of Medicine. The post holder will support the School's Operational Programme and lead on programmes of work within the School's strategy. The post holder will be a member of the School Board.

The post holder will support the School's commitment to delivering excellent postgraduate training, in a variety of educational environments which promote staff wellbeing, a positive learning culture, and a sense of belonging.

End date for all new educator appointments will be 31st March 2027. Extensions beyond this date are not guaranteed.

Main duties of the job
  • Training in Internal Medicine Stage 1 programmes
  • The work of the Examination Support TPDs and development of training resources for the MRCP(UK) examination
  • Courses that prepare HSTs for consultant practice (including leadership)
Responsibilities
  • Secondments: Applicants from within the NHS will be offered on a secondment basis only; agreement must be obtained from their employer prior to submission of the application.
  • Promote faculty development and direction setting by supporting and developing Training Programme Directors.
  • Work with host trusts, ICBs and clinical colleagues to promote the work of the School and encourage a collegiate approach to the delivery of specialty training across NHSE North West WT&E, including participation in School and NHSE activities.
  • Collaborate with the Head of School, Lead Associate Dean for the School, the Deputy Dean for Quality and the NHSE North West Office Quality Team to ensure appropriate quality management systems are in place that facilitate a culture of inclusion and continuous improvement.
Person Specification Qualifications
  • Consultant or Specialist Doctor in Medicine currently working in NHS Trusts in NW England.
  • MRCP(UK) or equivalent qualification.
  • Attendance at educational courses or an educational qualification such as Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma or Master's in medicine.
Experience
  • Experience of working with doctors in an educational context.
  • Experience as an educational supervisor.
  • Previous or current lead role in Healthcare Education.
  • Understanding of the Workforce Transformation agenda.
  • Experience in recruitment.
  • Awareness of funding streams for Healthcare Education.
  • Clinical Manager experience.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in our offices.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
