Job Description
Associate Editorial Manager (Temporary, 12 months)

Circa: Salary - Salary Plan, 40,000.00 GBP Annual.

We are looking for an Associate Editorial Manager to join either the Nano & Applied or Materials team. The role is based in Cambridge but offers hybrid working. The successful candidate will support the publication process with a strong emphasis on peer review and related processes, including supporting external editors and ensuring the smooth running of the team and journals.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of approximately five Publishing Editors, delivering KPIs in line with departmental and journal strategies, leading and motivating the team to provide excellent customer service.
  • Oversee the workflow from manuscript submission to final decision and acceptances, ensuring best practice and a standardised workflow is followed.
  • Work closely with the Editorial Manager and Executive Editor to ensure submitted articles meet the journal's standards and quality and maintain consistency across the team.
  • Support manuscript processing by external Associate and Scientific Editors, monitor their performance and advise senior editors on any issues.
  • Carry out assessment of submitted articles, handle appeals and ethical cases arising through peer review, and advise authors and referees on Royal Society of Chemistry policy relating to publication and ethical issues.
  • Maximise transfers between journals in the Royal Society of Chemistry's portfolio.
Qualifications
  • A degree in science.
  • Experience in STM publishing.
  • Willingness to lead and manage a team; previous experience preferable.
  • Ability to train and motivate people effectively.
  • Good organisational and time management skills, ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Strong communication skills with internal and external contacts.
  • Proven ability to work well as part of a team.
Benefits and Working Conditions

Hybrid working based at the Cambridge office; the role is contractually based in Cambridge but you will work from home within the UK, required to attend the office as needed.
