The Role and Responsibilities

Our Property Litigation team is seeking an Associate in our Birmingham office.

We Offer
  • A friendly supportive team looking to recruit for longer term development. Abi and Daniel, the two partners, both trained at Capsticks.
  • A varied range of high quality work which makes a positive difference to our clients. Some examples of current cases include:
    • Curt action to remove a 'bed blocker' for an NHS trust
    • Removing squatters from a central London property with an IPO for a charity
    • Curt proceedings and arbitrations involving GP partnership disputes
    • Multi-millin pound dilapidations disputes
    • Strategic advice in MEES and Net Zero obligations across the NHS estate
    • Breakntices to facilitate estate re-organisation
    • Judicial review of a planning decision for development of staff accommodation
    • Advising on restrictive covenants and easements for site disposals
    • 1954 Act security of tenure and lease renewals
  • Opportunities to collaborate with knowledgeable colleagues in other teams and to work in all the firm's sectors: health, housing, primary care, Local Authority and emergency services.
  • Training and development. Property litigation experience is essential; public sector and partnership disputes experience is desirable but not vital.
  • 1,350 hours billable hours target (FTE) with bonus scheme.
  • Flexibility by default - work from home or the office (at least one day per week preferred but no hard rules) and with core hours policy.
Skills and Experience
  • We'd love you to add your contribution to the team with excellent legal and communication skills, an enthusiasm for our and our clients' work, and commitment to Capsticks' values.
  • Help us deliver clear advice and practical recommendations to clients. Bring your common sense and willingness to learn and try new things. We aim for a balance of supervision and autonomy to help you gain a sense of satisfaction in helping our clients and in your personal development.
