Assistant Trees & Woodland Adviser

Summary

Working across the North as part of our Restore Nature team, you'll be joining us at an exciting time as our ambitious new strategy "People and Nature Thriving" sets out to restore nature at scale, creating 250,000 ha of nature-rich habitats within and beyond the National Trust landholdings.

You can really make a difference by working with colleagues to deliver woodland improvement and creation across the North. You'll be providing professional advice on all aspects of tree and woodland management and supporting with operational delivery.

Salary: £30,966pa
Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week, generally be Monday to Friday, with some variation in hours from day to day depending on travelling
Contract: Permanent
Location: Located within the North Region - we can be flexible with location. There is a mix of office and fieldwork with regular travel to sites across the Region.

What it's like to work here

You'll be joining the Restore Nature team and able to have a real impact as part of this integrated region-wide team, providing professional advice on all aspects of tree and woodland management and supporting with operational delivery.

You will also be working closely with the Tree and Woodland Advisor and with NT colleagues at properties across the Region, with support from the national Tree and Woodland team.

What you'll be doing

You'll be delivering on NT National and Regional priorities for woodlands which include :

1. Tree Safety Management
   Support properties to implement the mandatory NT Tree Safety Management procedures, including providing specific advice as required.
2. UKWAS compliant woodland management
   Ensure properties have current Woodland Management Plans, including active woodland management where appropriate. Provide silvicultural advice and support with operational delivery. Take part in external audits and collate data as required by our certification body.
3. Tree planting and woodland creation
   Working towards our national 20m tree target, engage with colleagues and external partners to develop new opportunities for woodland creation, support with funding applications and operational delivery.
4. Ancient woodlands, Ancient and Veteran trees
   Work with properties to restore and improve the condition of our Ancient Woodland sites. Advise on the appropriate management to protect our Ancient and Veteran trees.
5. Compliance with NT policy and best practice
   Provide advice and support to properties on the full range of issues and compliance around trees and woodlands. Including legal compliance, contract management, H&S requirements, tree health issues and general silvicultural guidance.

Who we're looking for

To be successful in this role you'll need:

• Technical knowledge and experience in tree and woodland management, ideally including tree safety management
• Problem solving ability and commitment to deliver a high quality outcomes
• Ability to communicate confidently and build strong collaborative working relationships
• Full UK Driving Licence
