Job Description

Role: Assistant Quality Manager

Location: Bristol

Salary: Up to £50,000 depending on experience

My client well-established aerospace engineering business based in Bristol, looking for an experienced Assistant Quality Manager to join their team.

The role will involve leading a small team of Quality Inspectors and working closely with the Quality Manager to manage the day-to-day quality function.

This would suit someone with a background in quality engineering or quality management who has some supervisory experience and is looking for the next step in their career. You will need to be comfortable working in a hands on manufacturing environment, dealing with quality issues and finding practical solutions on the shop floor.

Responsibilities include:
  • Leading and motivating a small team of Quality Inspectors
  • Supporting the training and development of the team
  • Managing the throughput of finished goods from a quality perspective
  • Managing the day-to-day quality requirements of the sub-contract supplier base
  • Supporting FMEA and FAIR activities
  • Maintaining documentation and records relating to quality activities
  • Programming CMMs
  • Acting as the link between the Quality Inspectors and Quality Manager
  • Investigating quality issues and providing practical solutions on the shop floor
  • Interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, route cards and process instructions
  • Reviewing dimensions, tolerances and inspection requirements
  • Preparing and maintaining reports in accordance with AS9102
Skills and experience:
  • Experience in a quality engineering, quality inspection or quality management role
  • Experience within aerospace or precision engineering
  • Previous experience supervising or leading a small team, or looking to take the next step into a supervisory role
  • Experience with CMM programming
  • Good knowledge of engineering drawings, specifications, dimensions and tolerances
  • Experience with FMEA, FAIRs and AS9102
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a practical approach to resolving quality issues
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across the business
  • A relevant engineering or quality qualification such as City & Guilds, NVQ, HNC/HND, degree or equivalent
Beneficial but not essential:
    • Experience programming Aberlink CMMs
    • Additional quality-related qualifications
    • Experience managing or developing a team
