Assistant Project Manager (Rail Infrastructure)
Location: York (Hybrid)

This is a *York* Hybrid based role with an excellent immediate start within a Public Sector organisation working on *Support the development of rail infrastructure projects through feasibility, option selection, and early-stage design.*
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager to support the development and delivery of major rail infrastructure and enhancement projects.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping projects from concept and feasibility through to single-option development, ensuring successful progression into delivery. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and industry partners to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and in line with programme, budget, and quality objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development of rail infrastructure projects through feasibility, option selection, and early-stage design.
- Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, risks, and reporting activities.
- Coordinate consultants, contractors, and technical teams to deliver project objectives.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Support procurement activities, contract management, and commercial decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety, environmental, and industry standards.
- Monitor project risks, issues, and change control processes.
- Contribute to integrated programme planning and project governance activities.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience working within a project management or project development environment.
- Background in rail, infrastructure, construction, engineering, or major capital projects.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Understanding of project governance, risk management, budgeting, and programme controls.
- Knowledge of construction and health & safety legislation.
- Commercial awareness and experience working with suppliers and contractors.
- Degree-qualified or equivalent practical experience.
- PRINCE2 Foundation or equivalent project management qualification.
Desirable
- Membership of APM or a recognised project management body.
- Experience working within complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Knowledge of rail infrastructure project development and investment processes.
