Swim Enfield, a performance coaching programme operating out of five pools across the London Boroughs of Enfield and Barnet, is looking for a full-time Assistant Head Coach. A Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate/ASA Level 2 Coaching Award is essential, as is a proven ability to work with athletes at all levels and ages. An NPLQ and Swim England Senior Coaching Certificate/ASA Level 3 Coaching Award are desirable, and successful Swim England coaches must be willing to work towards these.

The Swim Enfield swimming programme services approximately 1,300 members, ranging from Learn to Swim members through to qualifiers for British Championships.

The AssistantHead Coach will be working alongside the Director of Performance/Head Coach and a vastly experienced and enthusiastic permanent coaching team to contribute to a programme that aspires to be the best in the London region, delivering performance athlete coaching within the Swim Enfield scheme as well as our competition club Enfield Swim Squad.

The successful candidate must have the versatility to work with athletes at all levels, be passionate about advancing the performance of the programme, be willing to take on projects that seek to enhance our service delivery and contribute positively to the dynamic of our experienced and enthusiastic coaching team.

Working hours will be split between time on deck (approximately 20 hours per week plus galas) and administrative/operational duties. Candidates should be reliable and willing to provide flexibility with regards to coaching availability - in some instances, the Assistant Head Coach may be required to deputise for the Director of Performance during various phases of the season.

A non-exhaustive list of key skills/requirements includes:

  • Knowledge of the development, organisation, implementation and coordination of swim squads to ensure all athletes are given the opportunity to maximise their potential, including an understanding of swimming-specific Athlete Development Sport Pathway (ADSP) and high-performance swimming environments;
  • Excellent communication skills, including the mentoring of and contribution to an experienced coaching team, sports science and medicine (SSSM)/gym/land support services and liaison with the teaching divisions of the programme;
  • Building strong relationships with athletes, parents and partner programmes to continually encourage individuals and groups towards the next level of swimming development;
  • Leading and/or assisting at competitions and meets to support, monitor and develop Enfield Swim Squad athletes;
  • Leading and/or assisting in the development and implementation of an athlete/coach/parent education programme, providing pastoral support to athletes and promoting the highest levels of professionalism at all times;
  • Assisting and contributing to the development and delivery of an annual competitive calendar, which adequately reflects the needs of all squads across the programme;
  • Contributing to a vibrant and spirited training and racing environment, bringing passion and technical expertise to poolside at both training and competition;
  • Leading the expansion of revenue-generating areas of the programme;
  • Leading and expanding our thriving Masters programme;
  • Working alongside the Director of Performance and the Board's Operations Lead during non-coaching hours to develop new initiatives, manage the programme and fulfil any required administrative duties.

Swim Enfield would like the candidate to be in place for the commencement of the 2025/2026 season, although there is some flexibility for the right candidate.

An enhanced DBS and up-to-date Swim England safeguarding training are required for this post.
