Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Assistant Accountant to join our client on a part-time basis, working 3 days per week. You will need to be flexible with your availability to meet the needs of the business. This role will initially be based on-site during the probationary period, providing the opportunity to become fully integrated within the business. Upon successful completion of probation, the position can become fully remote. Due to the location of the office, candidates will require their own transport. A competitive salary is offered on a pro rata basis for a 3-day working week.

As the Assistant Accountant, your duties will include:

  • Receiving and processing receipts for payment.
  • Raising sales invoices and managing client payment timescales, working directly with clients and project managers where required.
  • Processing payroll and managing PAYE and National Insurance payments.
  • Running debtor and creditor statements to monitor income and expenditure.
  • Producing profit and loss reports and linking time-booking data to project costs for key projects.
  • Managing ledgers and assisting with account auditing activities.
  • Estimating revenues and expenditures.
  • Completing statutory and legislative requirements, including PAYE, VAT submissions, and pension auto-enrolment administration.
  • Preparing periodic financial reports for management.
  • Providing administrative support to the statutory accountant and consultants, including invoice generation.
  • Performing daily accounts administration and data entry tasks.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and monitoring financial transactions.
  • Acting as the point of contact for staff pensions, including private and auto-enrolment schemes.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience within a similar standalone accounts controller role.
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero.
  • Experience processing payroll and managing VAT, PAYE, and pension administration.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, including confidence using email and Microsoft Teams.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business needs.
  • A trustworthy, reliable, and professional approach.

If you are an experienced Assistant Accountant looking for a flexible part-time opportunity where you can make a real impact within a growing business, we would love to hear from you.
