Assistant Accountant (Maternity Cover)

  • Annual Salary: up to £38,000
  • Location: Near Carnforth
  • Job Type: Full-time, Office-based
  • Contract Term: Fixed-term (Aug 2026 - Oct 2027)

We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join a well-established SME on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working in a collaborative finance team and supporting the day-to-day operations of the finance function.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Transactional Finance:

    • Process sales orders and invoices.
    • Manage the purchase ledger, including supplier invoices, reconciliations, and queries.
    • Support the sales ledger with invoicing, statements, and customer queries.
    • Handle expenses and credit card transactions.
  • Banking & Cash Management:

    • Perform daily bank reconciliations.
    • Monitor balances and support cash flow tracking.
    • Process payments to suppliers, staff, and HMRC.
  • Admin & Wider Business Support:

    • Support staff records and HR administration.
    • Respond to general enquiries.
    • Update spreadsheets and assist with reporting.
    • Support the wider team with ad hoc tasks.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a similar accounts role.
  • Confidence in managing both purchase and sales ledgers, as well as banking.
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • AAT qualification or currently studying towards one is beneficial but not essential.
