Area Engineering Lead

On behalf of our client, NRL is recruiting for an Area Engineering Lead to work at Hinkley Point C.

About Hinkley Point C

Hinkley Point C (HPC) involves constructing two new nuclear reactors, representing a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK, providing low-carbon electricity for around six million homes.

Role Overview

As an Area Engineering Lead, you will be part of the Nuclear New Builds' (NNB) Technical Directorate, working on-site with NNB's Joint Design Office. Your responsibilities include assisting the Area Engineering Manager and coordinating all engineering disciplines to support the construction of a designated area. You will manage the designers' deliverables, oversee design changes, monitor configuration control, respond to site queries, and close open design points.

Key Responsibilities

1. Act as the lead contact for a specific plant area and manage a small design team.
2. Collaborate with delivery and construction teams to gather requirements, define scope, schedule, and prioritize engineering tasks to meet site needs.
3. Manage multi-disciplinary interfaces and act as mediator/decision-maker for project decisions.
4. Work with design, contractor, and construction teams to maintain technical quality, safety, and schedule adherence.
5. Coordinate interfaces and open points to ensure design and construction changes are finalized before construction, managing expectations and mediating technical resolutions.
6. Review design packages for a defined plant scope to ensure they meet functional requirements.
7. Identify issues affecting nuclear safety and ensure compliance with quality procedures.
8. Report risks and interface issues to the Engineering Manager and facilitate their resolution.

Candidate Profile

1. Degree qualified or equivalent experience in an Engineering discipline, preferably Civil or Structural.
2. Experience in designing infrastructure, civil, and structural works.
3. Proven stakeholder management skills, both internal and external.
4. Experience in site engineering and managing design change processes.
5. Understanding of contract management, especially NEC and CDM Regulations.
6. Experience in a regulated industry is desirable.
7. Familiarity with BIM software such as Navisworks, Tekla, or Revit is desirable.
