Job Description

Reports To: Qualified Tiler / Site Supervisor

Job Summary

An Apprentice Tiler works alongside experienced tilers to learn the skills required to install wall and floor tiles in residential, commercial, and industrial properties. The role combines practical on-site training with one day per week at college further developing practical skills and theory classes helping to develop the knowledge and experience needed to become qualified tilers and to be able to work competently and safely in the construction industry

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with preparing walls and floors for tiling.
  • Measure and mark out surfaces accurately.
  • Cut tiles using hand and power tools.
  • Mix and apply adhesives and grout.
  • Lay wall and floor tiles to a high standard under supervision.
  • Remove old tiles and prepare surfaces for new installations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work area.
  • Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Always follow health and safety procedures.
  • Attend college or training sessions as required and complete coursework.

Requirements
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths are desirable.
  • Genuine interest in construction and tiling.
  • Commitment to completing an apprenticeship programme.
  • CSCS apprentice card will be obtained during the apprenticeship.
Working Conditions
  • Work is carried out on construction sites and in occupied homes or commercial buildings.
  • Regular use of tools and equipment.
  • May involve lifting heavy materials, kneeling, bending, and working at height.
  • Standard working week is typically 37-40 hours, with occasional overtime.
Successful completion of the apprenticeship can lead to:
  • Qualified Wall and Floor Tiler
  • Specialist Tiler (e.g. natural stone, mosaic, large-format porcelain)
  • Self-employed Tiler or business owner

This apprenticeship provides practical experience, industry-recognised qualifications, and the opportunity to build a long term career in the construction industry.
