About the roleAskham Bryan College is seeking a passionate and dedicated General Farm Worker to join the team at our Westfield Farm. This full-time role offers the opportunity to work on a busy, mixed farm with a variety of livestock, including 230 dairy cows, 120 beef cattle, 200 breeding ewes, and a small arable enterprise. As a key member of a small, close-knit team, you'll gain hands on experience and play an essential role in the daily operations of the farm.
This position offers an apprenticeship route, where you will be enrolled on either a Level 2 or Level 3 General Farm Worker apprenticeship, which will involve practical work across all aspects of commercial farming, including livestock handling, machinery operation, and farm maintenance. You will also attend lessons on site and participate in assessments and reviews. Throughout your apprenticeship, the college will provide support to help you achieve functional skills qualifications in Maths and English, if needed.
In this role, you'll be involved in all aspects of the farming operation. From a wide array of livestock duties within our dairy, beef and sheep enterprises to machinery operation and maintenance, and you'll develop your skills in areas such as animal health, stockmanship, tractor operation, feeder wagon operation, farm maintenance, and safe working practices. Weekend work may be part of the rotation, and the role requires flexibility, adaptability, and a strong work ethic in all weather conditions. Previous experience of tractor operation, livestock handling and a telehandler ticket is desirable.
This is a fantastic opportunity to build your career in agriculture and gain the practical skills needed to progress in the sector. You'll be supported throughout your apprenticeship and encouraged to learn and implement new techniques. A full UK driver's license is required for this role, but accommodation is not available.
