Work

As an apprentice, you'll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You'll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you'll do at work

Customer Service:

• Relaying company services
• Product knowledge
• Formal and informal communication
• Using ICT in the workplace
• Costing, pricing and budgeting
• Time, scheduling and cost of a project

Product and Specification:

• Working with water-borne, solvent borne and epoxy
• Drying, curing and recoating
• The effect of colour, design and contrast
• Preventing common problems
• Correcting common problems
• Hazardous to health sheets, method statements and risk assessments

Preparation, application and removal:

• Working with new surfaces
• Working with pre-decorated surfaces
• Removal of previous coatings and wall coverings with different methods
• Traditional and modern methods of making good surfaces
• Systems for metals, wood, plastic and factory finishes
• Application of brush
• Application of roller
• Application of pressure roller
• Spray application
• Removal and application of wall coverings

Training

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

The successful applicant will either be driving or at the very least, have a driving test booked.
