Our new partnership enables the expansion of life saving stem cell collection services in the UK and creates opportunities to develop research programmes in the future.
As the Apheresis Specialist Nurse, you will be based at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, within the Anthony Nolan Cell Collection Centre, hosted by the Clinical Research Facility.
Main duties of the jobYou will work closely with the Apheresis Nurse Manager and the CCC Lead Nurse to provide all aspects of clinical care for patients and stem cell donors.
You will work as part of a highly skilled specialist team acting as a source of clinical expertise.
Clinical Practice- Take responsibility for the care of donors/patients requiring specialist apheresis procedures under the guidance of the Apheresis Nurse Manager.
- Competent, knowledgeable and visible practitioner within the speciality ensuring the provision of excellent, evidence based nursing care for donors/patients.
- Deliver the apheresis service on behalf of Anthony Nolan, in accordance with apheresis service guidelines and assess, treat and refer donors/patients to other members of the clinical team as required.
- Remain current and up to date with clinical protocols and best practice, maintaining specialist knowledge of apheresis.
- Be competent in the care and management of peripheral venous catheters, central venous catheters, venepuncture, cannulation, intravenous drug administration, apheresis and blood product administration in accordance with the guidelines for clinical practice.
- Ensure all elements of the donor/patient clinical pathway are understood and delivered successfully, including safe administration of treatments and medications.

Person Specification Training and Qualification- First level registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC)
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Intravenous medication package completed
- Cannulation and venepuncture proficiency
- Completion of an apheresis training programme
- Teaching/Mentorship course
- Post registration clinical experience in apheresis practices and procedures
- Supervision of registered and non registered staff and students
- Ability to manage workload efficiently and effectively
- Teaching & assessing experience
- Convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to patients, relatives/carers and staff
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
- Produce timely, accurate written/electronic records and documents
- Recognition of own level of competence and limitations able to communicate these to appropriate staff
- Evidence of negotiation and influencing skills
- Able to minimise interpersonal conflict and barriers to communication
- Demonstrate team working and ability to work within a team
- Delivery of formal teaching sessions
- Demonstrate an ability to assess, plan, deliver, prioritise and evaluate patient care
- Ability to identify own learning needs
- Able to respond to difficult situations and to ensure that effective interventions are put in place
- Able to recognise gaps in service provision
- Demonstrate an ability to prioritise own workload and recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations
