About the role

Brighton and Sussex Medical School is seeking to appoint an Anatomy Technician to support the delivery of high-quality anatomy teaching and research for medical students and clinical faculty. You will be joining an award-winning team that teaches over 1,000 students each year, delivering outstanding anatomical education across a wide range of programmes including allied health, medicine, and higher surgical training.

This hands on role is based in the Dissecting Room, where you will work with human cadaveric material on licensed premises under the Human Tissue Act. You will contribute to the preparation of teaching and research materials, assist with the smooth day to day running of the laboratory, and ensure that high standards of safety and compliance are always maintained.

You will be part of a friendly, dynamic team comprising six academic staff, an Anatomy Facility Manager, fellow Anatomy Technicians, Demonstrators, and an Administrator. We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable individual with good common sense, excellent communication skills, and a willingness to work hard. You should be able to manage tasks independently while also working effectively as part of a small, supportive team.

About you

We are seeking a motivated, detail oriented individual, educated to Level 3 (NVQ, BTEC, A Level or equivalent), with strong organisational and communication skills. You should be able to work flexibly within a small team and independently, using competent IT skills to manage tasks.

Experience in monitoring technical standards, ensuring compliance, and applying university systems is essential, alongside knowledge of relevant legislation, health and safety, and the Human Tissue Act (2004).

Desirable attributes include experience in death work, anatomy facilities, embalming (or willingness to learn), and knowledge of human anatomy. Flexibility to work outside normal hours is advantageous.

Equal Opportunity

The University is committed to equality and valuing diversity, and applications are particularly welcomed from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under represented in academic posts in Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics (STEMM) at Sussex.

The University of Sussex values the diversity of its staff and students, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
