AI Governance Specialist (Freelance)

About the Role

We are looking for an AI Governance Specialist to ensure the responsible, ethical, and compliant use of Artificial Intelligence across a global organisation.

You will help operationalise governance frameworks, support compliance with emerging AI regulations, and establish practical controls that enable safe AI adoption at scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the AI governance life cycle, including intake, risk assessment, and compliance reviews.
• Support compliance with the EU AI Act, GDPR, and related regulations.
• Maintain governance documentation, risk registers, and audit-ready evidence.
• Coordinate bias, fairness, and safety reviews of AI systems.
• Support AI incident management, escalation processes, and continuous improvement activities.
• Translate regulatory requirements into practical governance controls and operational guidance.

Required Skills

• 4+ years of experience in AI Governance, Risk & Compliance, Privacy, Data Protection, or Regulatory Operations.
• Strong knowledge of the EU AI Act, GDPR, and AI-related risk frameworks.
• Experience with Responsible AI, AI Risk Management, and Compliance processes.
• Strong analytical, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to translate complex regulations into practical business processes.
• Experience working across legal, business, and technical teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience with enterprise AI governance programmes.
• Exposure to audit, risk, or regulatory environments.
• Knowledge of international AI regulations and governance standards.

Travel: Very limited travel required. Occasional visits to company offices may be required for governance workshops, audits or stakeholder sessions.
