Job Description

AgileSource are looking for an experienced AI and Innovation Consultant to join an award-winning specialist consultancy who work with major organisations across every industry to improve strategy and digital delivery.

Overview

This role plays a central part in modernising how a leading UK law firm operates. The AI & Innovation Consultant will act as a catalyst for change-guiding the adoption of existing and emerging technologies, embedding innovative ways of working, and helping legal and business teams deliver smarter, faster, and more client-focused outcomes. The position combines strategic insight with practical delivery and requires a strong understanding of both technology and the realities of legal practice.

The Role

Working across legal practices, business services, IT, and external partners, the consultant will design and deliver technology-enabled improvements aligned to the firm's strategic priorities. This includes evaluating new legal technologies, automating workflows, supporting pilots through to firmwide roll-out, and helping teams adopt new tools successfully. The role suits someone comfortable switching between big-picture thinking and hands-on execution.

Location

This position is predominantly office-based and requires regular presence at a South West office location.

Key ResponsibilitiesInnovation Strategy & Capability

  • Contribute to the development of an innovation and AI roadmap aligned to business and legal objectives.

  • Help build a scalable internal innovation capability, including methods, frameworks, and skills development.

  • Support leadership in shaping a firmwide approach to technology-driven change.

Delivery of Innovation Initiatives

  • Identify opportunities for improvement across legal services, client delivery, and internal operations.

  • Assess ideas and initiatives based on impact, feasibility, value, and alignment with firm priorities.

  • Lead or support pilots, proofs of concept, and controlled rollouts of new tools and processes.

  • Ensure initiatives deliver measurable benefits and achieve agreed outcomes.

  • Provide subject-matter input into client pitches and innovation-led proposals where required.

Collaboration & Change

  • Work closely with lawyers, business services, project managers, and technology teams to design practical solutions.

  • Support change management through training, guidance, and adoption planning.

  • Encourage cross-firm collaboration and promote a culture that embraces experimentation and continuous improvement.

Technology & Market Insight

  • Monitor developments in AI, legal technology, and adjacent industries to identify relevant opportunities.

  • Evaluate technology vendors for strategic fit, commercial viability, and operational impact.

  • Act as a knowledgeable internal adviser on legal tech trends and best practice.

  • Represent the firm externally at industry forums and innovation events as appropriate.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provide consultative advice to senior stakeholders across legal and business functions.

  • Translate technical concepts into clear, actionable recommendations for non-technical audiences.

  • Act as a bridge between technology specialists and legal professionals.

Skills & ExperienceEssential Attributes

  • Leadership & Influence: Ability to guide multidisciplinary teams and support change in complex organisations.

  • Experience: Background in innovation, technology, consultancy, legal operations, or project delivery-ideally within professional services.

  • Analytical Capability: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess legal processes and identify improvement opportunities.

  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders.

Technical & Professional Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of AI concepts and their application within legal and professional services.

  • Familiarity with legal technology and enterprise platforms such as document and practice management systems, workflow automation, collaboration portals, and data/BI tools.

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and related automation or low-code platforms is highly advantageous.
