Job overview

We are looking for a motivated, skilled, autonomous Practitioner to work as a core member of the multidisciplinary team in BHOC SDEC. You will triage, plan, coordinate, prescribe and deliver treatment for patients requiring urgent care, following complications of oncological/haematological diagnoses, or for those post SACT therapy, stem cell transplant or cellular therapy. Supporting patients to stay at home is a key component of this role.

Main duties of the job

You will provide clinical decision making and patient reviews to support triage and assessment of patients self referring to the unit via the BHOC SDEC helpline and attending the unit with urgent care issues relating to malignant and haematological treatments and diagnoses. A key component of this role is hospital avoidance and safety netting along with delivery of acute management of complications of treatments.

Practice at a high level of clinical expertise in assessing and diagnosing patients who present to the BHOC SDEC service.

Demonstrate a critical understanding of your broadened level of responsibility and autonomy.

Use expertise and decision making skills to inform clinical reasoning approaches when dealing with differentiated and undifferentiated individual presentations and complex situations.

Lead new practice and service redesign solutions.

Critically apply advanced clinical expertise to provide consultancy across professional and service boundaries.

Person specification Knowledge and Experience
  • Recent significant experience in patient triage (E)
  • Proven leadership and management experience in an emergency care / oncology / haematology setting (E)
  • Proven evidence of educational support to others (E)
  • Experience or sound knowledge of change management as part of a leadership role (E)
  • Undertaken research as a chief or principle investigator (D)
  • Proven clinical expert in haematology or oncology settings (D)
Qualifications and Training
  • Registered Health Care Professional (NMC/HCPC/GCP/GPhC) Registration (E)
  • Evidence of formal ongoing professional development in the specialist area (E)
  • Completed Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent mapped to apprenticeship standard (E)
  • Teaching Qualification or equivalent experience (E)
  • Non Medical Prescribing course (E)
  • IRMER education (D)
Skills and Abilities
  • Highly effective communication skills - verbally and written to staff, patients and relatives including in situations of conflict or distress (E)
  • Able to gain credibility with and influence colleagues including influencing clinical changes where appropriate (E)
