JOB TITLE:

Advanced Learning Teacher Maternity Leave (August 20, 2026 - November 5, 2026)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educator License

Comfort with working with students K-8

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Advanced Learning Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to academically talented students in a K-8 school setting. The teacher will design, implement and facilitate challenging curriculum and activities to enhance the academic development and socio- emotional growth of advanced learners. The teacher will also work collaboratively with other school staff to identify and assess the needs of advanced learners and monitor and evaluate student progress.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES Essential Functions:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive and challenging curriculum for advanced learners that aligns with state and national academic standards.
  • Plan, organize and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that cater to the unique learning styles and abilities of advanced learners.
  • Assess the academic and socio-emotional needs of advanced learners, and collaborate with other school staff to develop lessons to meet their academic needs.
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction, support and enrichment activities to advanced learners in various subject areas.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies and technologies to facilitate active learning and critical thinking skills among advanced learners.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of advanced learners, and provide regular feedback to parents, students and school staff.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and implement advanced learning opportunities that are integrated into the general curriculum.
  • Assist in the identification and referral process for advanced learners, and participate in the development of school-wide programs and services for talented students.
  • Attend professional development workshops and conferences to enhance knowledge and skills in advanced learning instruction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principals.
  • Use data to monitor success of advanced learning programs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of best practices in advanced learning instruction, differentiation, and curriculum design.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to design and implement effective assessment tools and strategies.
  • Familiarity with technology tools and resources to support advanced learning instruction.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and priorities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to actively perform work in classroom, office, and other business and community settings. Ability to move freely and perform duties in numerous locations throughout the day (typically involving frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting). Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting. Exposure to weather conditions. Ability to travel outside the district for a variety of meetings and conferences.
