Advanced Clinical Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health Care Professional to work as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner - Band 8a across the Emergency Departments of South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.
The EDs at STSFT have a well established team of Lead ACPs, ACPs and ECPs (Band 8b to Band 6 - with a planned move to progress to 8c) across all areas of the ED. With this we can provide excellent supervision and development.
The successful applicant will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing and treating patients presenting with a wide range of clinical conditions including medical, surgical and trauma cases. You will be required to provide decision support to a large team of medical and non medical clinicians in an EM middle grade capacity. You will be required to provide flexible cover over a 24 hour period and rotate between the main ED and UTC on both sites.
There is an ongoing work based educational and clinical supervision programme. Successful applicants will need to hold an MSc in Advanced Practice and be RCEM ACP credentialed. They will be expected to continue to engage with the RCEM portfolio post credentialing. You will be supported by a named Consultant Educational Supervisor.
The post includes 6hrs per week non clinical time, in which you would be expected to engage in leadership, governance and self development activities.
Main duties of the job- Weekly protected in house teaching programme aimed at the ACP tier.
- Access to the RCEM e portfolio.
- Clinical education and supervision in practice.
- Support from a named ED Consultant and Lead ACP.
- Opportunities to continue to progress across the four pillars of advanced practice.
- Undertake advanced clinical assessment and examination, including but not limited to:
- Clinical data interpretation, investigation and treatment.
- Resuscitation and first stage management.
- Diagnosis and disease management.
- Delivery of expert clinical interventions and treatments.
- Non medical prescribing.
The post holder will work collaboratively with the multi disciplinary team, be expected to sit on the junior tier medical rota, and work with medical and nursing teams to deliver a high quality service. Coverage will include days, nights and some weekend shifts as specified in the job plan. Dedicated time is allocated for management and continuous professional development.
Physical Skills- Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.
- Expert hand/eye coordination to facilitate and complete clinical procedures.
- Demonstrate an understanding of current developments in the relevant speciality.
- Understand, encourage and support clinical supervision.
- Knowledge of current NHS, professional and educational issues.
- Knowledge of clinical governance and risk assessment/management.
- Knowledge of infection control issues.
- Effective communication, both written and verbal.
- Evidence of MDT working.
- Ability to develop protocols and guidelines.
- Ability to write reports for senior management.
- Work under own initiative with strong organisational skills and meet deadlines.
- Problem solving skills.
- Time management and prioritisation.
- Ability to manage change, both personally and in leading others.
- Motivation of self and others.
- Diplomacy and negotiation skills.
- Develop scope of roles and responsibilities for self and other Trust staff.
- Competent in the use of IT software packages.
- Extensive portfolio of evidence demonstrating high autonomy and complex decision making using the four pillars: clinical practice, leadership, management, education and research.
- Active professional registration with NMC or HCPC.
- Degree in a health related subject.
- MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice or relevant modules meeting the four pillars of advanced practice.
- Practice supervisor/assessor with recent evidence of facilitating learning in practice.
- ALS/ATLS certification.
- Significant post qualification experience in the relevant clinical field.
- Evidence of well developed clinical practice.
- Experience leading a team.
- Evidence of facilitating learning in practice.
- Audit and research experience.
- Experience of change management.
- Evidence of innovation in practice.
