Job Description
Your new company

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a number of brand-new Cabinet Support Administrator positions with Birmingham City Council on a temporary contract. Supporting Cabinet Members with resident enquiries, this is a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure to senior stakeholders and contribute to high-profile work at the heart of local government.

Your new role

You will be responsible for managing enquiries received via email from local residents, providing responses to straightforward queries and ensuring more complex cases are directed to the appropriate council services. Enquiries are likely to cover areas such as housing, waste services and other council-related matters. This role requires a professional, empathetic approach, as many residents may be in vulnerable situations and require sensitive handling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and triage incoming resident enquiries.
  • Respond to straightforward enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Log and escalation complex cases to the relevant departments.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure enquiries are tracked through to resolution.
  • Build effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across council services.
What you'll need to succeed

We're looking for someone with previous experience in administration, customer service, casework support or complaint handling who is confident managing a high volume of enquiries and competing priorities. The successful candidate will have excellent written communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to respond professionally and accurately to a wide range of resident enquiries. You'll be empathetic and resilient, with the confidence to handle sensitive and sometimes complex situations involving vulnerable residents. Strong organisational and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently while maintaining a professional and customer-focused approach.

What you'll get in return

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to work closely with Cabinet Members and senior stakeholders, providing valuable exposure to local government and the political environment. You'll receive full training, initially focusing on waste services before expanding into broader council service areas, while benefiting from excellent career development opportunities within a high-profile team. You'll gain valuable experience and visibility that could support future career progression. You will also receive weekly pay every Friday, and an hourly rate of £15.07 including holiday.
