The County Highways Laboratory is part of Engineering Services within the Highways Department of Hampshire County Council. We are a dynamic and forward-thinking authority, delivering a wide range of high-quality testing services to the council, other public authorities, and private sector clients.

Based in Micheldever, the County Highways Laboratory is equipped to perform over 50 specialised laboratory and site tests on construction materials, including asphalt, aggregates, soil, and concrete. This ensures that materials used on our highway network are compliant and safe. We are also UKAS accredited, guaranteeing the highest level of quality and reliability in our testing services.

The Role:

We are looking for a motivated and organised individual to join our team as an Administrative Technician. In this role, you will support the smooth and efficient operation of the laboratory by ensuring high standards of quality, compliance, and data integrity.

What you'll do:

This role involves reviewing test worksheets and reports, preparing accurate and timely client invoices, and liaising with technicians and technical staff to support efficient operations. You will maintain accurate records with strong audit trails, ensure data quality and compliance with technical standards, manage laboratory calibration and audit schedules, and support the management team in the smooth day-to-day running of the laboratory.

What we're looking for:

We are seeking someone who is highly detail-oriented and organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

In this role, you will be confident in making decisions within defined procedures, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and demonstrate a collaborative, professional, and customer-focused approach. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, along with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to specialised LIMS systems, is also required.

While prior technical knowledge is not essential, a willingness to learn technical data, terminology, and processes is important.

The ideal candidate will be organised, efficient, and have a strong eye for detail. You will also need to work collaboratively as part of a friendly, enthusiastic, and diverse team.

Benefits and Working Environment:

We offer a flexible, motivating and inclusive workplace environment, where talent is truly recognised and developed. We have created an environment that you can look forward to being a part of and where you are empowered to be your best self. We believe in creating a workplace built on teamwork and where people can grow and develop in their roles.
