An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and clinically skilled nurse to join our existing Acute Oncology Team at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will provide advice and implement patient care in the area of Acute Oncology, requiring specific clinical knowledge, skills, and experience. A development role will be considered for candidates with the right potential. This is an exciting time for the service to expand its coverage for this group of patients.
Main duties of the jobTo give advice and implement patient care in the area of Acute Oncology, which requires specific clinical knowledge, skills, and experience. The post holder will work alongside other clinical colleagues in general oncology, palliative care, A&E, acute medicine, radiology, and pathology to ensure quality of care to patients is maximized. This will include developing clinical guidelines and education programs.
The post holder will play a key role in the Acute Oncology Team (AOT) and in delivering acute oncology services throughout the Trust. Responsibilities include providing early specialist care to oncology patients to enable:
- Faster and better care for patients with complications of cancer treatment (early recognition, better treatment, early discharge).
- Faster and better care for patients with complications of their cancer (early recognition, better treatment, rapid referral back to specialist oncology or palliative care teams).
- Appropriate investigation of patients who might benefit from treatment for unknown primary cancers (targeted investigations, rapid triage into specialist oncology or palliative care).

General- Assess, plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate evidence-based nursing care programs.
- Provide expert advice on clinical practice.
- Offer specialist education and training to staff.
- Collaborate with clinical colleagues to develop services and improve care quality.
- Assist in developing nursing services within the specialist field.
- RGN, educated to degree level, with evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Clinical examinations course, Advanced Communications Skills.
- Sufficient post-registration experience, including oncology knowledge and skills.
- Experience in teaching, staff training, nursing audit, and research.
- Understanding of national and local issues relevant to the specialty.
- Up-to-date knowledge of nursing policies and practices relevant to the specialty.
- Ward management experience.
- Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively.
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to analyze data and produce reports.
- Proficiency in IT skills.
- Ability to work autonomously within clinical parameters.
- Knowledge of professional and NHS issues and policies.
- Ability to develop and lead care pathways.
- Clinically competent in advanced skills within the Trust policy framework.
- Assertiveness and effective interpersonal relationship skills.
- Effective workload management.
