Location: GAIL, Wheatridge East, Abbeydale, Gloucester, GL4 5DF

Salary Range: NJC Grade I Pt 18-20, £34,434 - £36,363

Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time, All Year Round

Contract Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday

About the role

We are seeking a proactive and reliable Site Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day management, maintenance, and safety of our school site and buildings.

This is a hands-on role where you'll ensure the school environment is safe, secure, and well-maintained for students, staff, and visitors. You'll play a key role in safeguarding the site, managing maintenance tasks, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the school site, buildings, and equipment to a high standard
  • Ensure site security, including opening and closing procedures
  • Carry out minor repairs, maintenance, and inspections
  • Oversee cleaning staff to ensure quality and efficiency
  • Manage health & safety compliance, including risk assessments and statutory checks
  • Work with external contractors and ensure safe working practices on site
  • Maintain accurate records using compliance systems
  • Support procurement of services and site maintenance contracts
  • Respond to urgent repairs and emergencies across Trust schools when required

About the successful candidate

Essential

  • Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in English and Maths
  • Practical experience of building maintenance (e.g. plumbing, heating, basic repairs)
  • Knowledge of health & safety regulations (e.g. COSHH, asbestos, legionella, fire safety)
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with a range of stakeholders
  • Competent IT skills (including Microsoft Office)
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • A proactive, flexible, and "can-do" attitude
Desirable
  • Experience working in a school or similar environment
  • Knowledge of estates or facilities procurement
  • Experience using compliance or estates management systems
  • A trade qualification or background in construction

About the School

Gloucestershire Academy for Inspirational Learning is a specialist school for 200 pupils aged 4-16 opening at the start of 2027, with pupils phasing into the school across three years.

The school's designation is Moderate and Additional Learning Difficulties (MALD) and will cater for autistic pupils, those with speech and language differences, SEMH and those with learning differences in their cognitive profiles.

The school will be based in the Wheatridge area of Gloucestershire in a brand-new purpose-built building with outstanding facilities specifically tailored for SEND learners.
