Location of Post: This is an appointment on a Public Only Consultants' Contract by the Health Service Executive to be based at the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin (37 hours per week).
Details of Service: The consultant will provide outpatient general and specialist gynaecology clinics at the Rotunda hospital. They will have a weekly theatre list and may operate in Beaumont hospital on complex endometriosis cases as part of the endometriosis team. They will provide ambulatory gynaecology services in the Rotunda's outpatient hysteroscopy clinic weekly and provide antenatal and labour ward care.
Reporting Relationship: As per POCC 2023 the Consultant's reporting relationship and accountability for the discharge of their contract is to the Master / Chief Executive Officer of the hospital through the Clinical Director.
Purpose of the Post: Focus on gynaecology services, development of endometriosis care pathways and improvement of patient outcomes. The post aligns with national endometriosis care framework and includes multi disciplinary case management.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities- Participate in development of services and all duties within the Consultant's area of competence as per the Clinical Directorate Service Plan.
- Provide outpatient, inpatient, elective and emergency gynaecology services, including terminations of pregnancy integrated into ambulatory care.
- Ensure efficient patient flow and minimise delays in care.
- Work within the hospital service plan and service level agreements.
- Implement Disciplinary Procedure and review the Clinical Directorate Service Plan with the Clinical Director.
- Participate in the development and operation of the Clinical Directorate structure and other management bodies.
- Provide specialist consultation to other Consultants upon request.
- Ensure appropriate medical cover is available, acknowledging the European Working Time Directive.
- Supervise and be responsible for diagnosis, treatment, and care provided by non Consultant Hospital Doctors.
- Participate in selection processes for non Consultant Hospital Doctors and other staff.
- Participate in clinical audit, risk management, and data production for service improvement.
- Perform duties on the Obstetric/Gynaecology On Call rota, including operating, inpatient care, and ambulatory/emergency gynaecology surgery.
- Registration as a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with the Irish Medical Council.
- Completion of a specialist training programme in General Obstetrics and Gynaecology (e.g., MRCOG, MRCPI).
- Up to date knowledge of routine aspects of gynaecology and endometriosis care.
Successful candidates must register as a Specialist within 180 days of the interview. If not registered, the post may be offered to the next suitable candidate.
Health and Character- Candidates must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties of the post.
- Candidates must be of good character.
Non new entrants must be under 65 years of age on the first day of the month in which the latest application forms are received.
Other Specific RequirementsAvailability to attend obstetric or gynaecologic emergencies within 30 minutes when on duty.
