Salary: Competitive and based on experience

Location: London

A leading energy organisation is seeking a Corporate Tax Adviser for a 12-month fixed-term contract based in London. This is an exceptional opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting the UK's ambitious net zero targets by contributing your expertise to high-profile decommissioning projects and corporate tax matters. You will join a knowledgeable, supportive team that values collaboration, continuous learning, and diversity, all within a forward thinking company at the forefront of the energy transition. The organisation offers flexible working opportunities and places strong emphasis on employee well being, professional growth, and work life balance. If you are passionate about making a meaningful impact while developing your career in a dynamic sector, this role provides the perfect platform.

  • Contribute directly to major decommissioning initiatives that support the UK's net zero ambitions and future CO2 transport and storage infrastructure, ensuring your work has lasting environmental significance.
  • Enjoy a collaborative and inclusive culture where knowledge sharing, training opportunities, and flexible working arrangements are prioritised to help you thrive both professionally and personally.
  • Be part of an organisation renowned for its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and employee well being, offering you the chance to grow your skills in a supportive environment.

What you'll do:

As a Corporate Tax Adviser on this 12-month contract in London, you will be immersed in a diverse range of responsibilities that span from hands on compliance work to strategic advisory support. Your day to day will involve preparing complex tax submissions, optimising reliefs across multiple tax domains, responding thoughtfully to regulatory enquiries, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. You will collaborate with both internal teams and external advisers to meet all compliance obligations efficiently. In addition to managing routine filings such as VAT returns and Corporation Tax claims, you will play an integral role in audits and contribute valuable insights into broader tax planning initiatives. Your ability to communicate complex information clearly will be essential as you provide guidance across departments. By fostering positive relationships with fiscal authorities and sharing your expertise within the team, you will help maintain robust controls while supporting key decommissioning projects that have national significance.

  • Ensure timely submission of all tax returns and compliance filings in accordance with statutory requirements and internal policies, maintaining accuracy across direct and indirect tax obligations.
  • Optimise the use of available reliefs and allowances for VAT, EU Sales List, other indirect taxes, and Corporation Tax to maximise efficiency for the business.
  • Prepare detailed technical input for HMRC enquiries, including responses to indirect tax queries and Corporation Tax Self Assessment (CTSA) matters under supervision.
  • Calculate current and deferred taxes accurately, prepare comprehensive tax journals, and ensure precise reconciliation of tax figures in line with accounting standards and group reporting requirements.
  • Support quarterly VAT returns, manage indirect tax reconciliations, and address customs related matters for imports and exports as part of ongoing compliance activities.
  • Prepare final Corporation Tax claims and surrenders while reviewing Petroleum Revenue Tax (PRT) decision notices and Corporation Tax assessments to ensure completeness.
  • Assist in audits by providing robust support during year end and half year reviews of tax related issues, ensuring all documentation meets audit standards.
  • Contribute actively to tax planning initiatives as well as corporate optimisation or reorganisation projects that drive value for the business.
  • Provide clear tax advisory support to various teams within the UK business, collaborating closely with colleagues across departments to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Maintain positive relationships with fiscal authorities through effective communication while coaching and supporting colleagues within the Tax team.

What you bring:

To excel as a Corporate Tax Adviser on this fixed term contract, you will bring proven experience from roles involving UK corporate taxation-ideally within the energy or natural resources sectors. Your background should include exposure to both direct and indirect taxes as well as hands on involvement with decommissioning related issues. You will possess not only technical proficiency but also excellent interpersonal skills that allow you to build rapport across teams. Your approach should be methodical yet adaptable; you must be able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously while remaining sensitive to evolving business needs. Experience using SAP accounting systems alongside advanced spreadsheet capabilities will be invaluable when reconciling complex data sets. Above all else, your ability to communicate nuanced information clearly-both verbally and in writing-will set you apart as someone who can foster understanding among colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

  • A university degree or equivalent qualification is required to demonstrate your academic foundation in finance or related disciplines.
  • Professional tax qualification such as ATT or equivalent is highly recommended for this position due to the technical nature of the work involved.
  • A strong understanding of the upstream oil and gas sector along with associated tax risks is essential for success in this role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UK tax issues-particularly those relating to decommissioning-is necessary for effective performance.
  • The ability to translate complex tax matters into clear commercial guidance for non tax stakeholders is vital for cross functional collaboration.
  • Proficiency in SAP accounting systems alongside advanced skills in Excel, Word, and OneSource tax software will enable you to manage data efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills combined with strong interpersonal abilities are required for building trust within teams and with external partners.
  • Outstanding planning, organisation, and prioritisation skills are needed so you can adapt flexibly to changing deadlines without compromising quality.
  • A willingness to work overtime or occasional weekends during peak periods such as year end or quarterly close demonstrates your commitment to meeting critical deadlines.
