z/OS Infrastructure Engineer/System Programmer - Remote from Sweden or Nordics - 6 months+

One of our Blue Chip Clients is urgently looking for a z/OS Infrastructure Engineer/System Programmer.

For this role you can work remotely from Sweden or any Nordics country.

We are looking for an Infrastructure Engineer/System Programmer (SysProg) to join our Mainframe team and help operate and modernise our z/OS platform in a highly secure, business-critical environment.

About the role

You will be part of a skilled Mainframe team responsible for the stability, availability, and evolution of our z/OS environment. The role combines deep technical system programming with operational responsibility and close collaboration across IT and the business.

What you will do

  • System programming and maintenance of z/OS and related subsystems
  • Work closely with domain owners for MQ on z/OS, IMS and/or DB2 (depending on your profile)
  • Software installation, upgrades, and maintenance using SMP/E
  • Incident investigation, problem management, and operational support
  • Manage certificates, encryption, and security-related configurations
  • Participate in on-call duty and planned infrastructure activities, such as datacentre swaps and major changes
  • Contribute to modernisation, automation, and continuous improvements

We are looking for someone who

  • Has solid experience working with IBM z/OS in a system programming or senior infrastructure role
  • Strong knowledge of software maintenance and installation using SMP/E
  • Solid understanding of Mainframe security, including certificates, PKI, encryption, and key management
  • Is comfortable working in 24/7, high-availability environments
  • Is structured, proactive, and enjoys taking ownership
  • Enjoys working both independently and as part of a small expert team
  • Curious and motivated to continuously develop your skills
  • Calm and methodical under pressure in incident situations

Nice to have

  • Cross-platform integration (z/OS - distributed systems)
  • Experience from financial or other regulated environments
  • Automation, monitoring, and alerting on the Mainframe
  • Knowledge of additional z/OS subsystems or Middleware products
