The Youth & Justice Service is a dedicated service for children aged 11+ who need support. We offer a wide range of non statutory and statutory interventions to children who are experiencing difficulties and challenges where support cannot be provided by universal services alone. We have strong relationships with wider services and partners to ensure that we can jointly deliver the best possible support and care.


About the Role

This post is based at Bassett Street, South Wigston. It will cover the Blaby, Oadby and Wigston and Harborough localities. The role includes some evening work, including a requirement to run a SEND or Young Carers group one evening a week.


We are a very supportive and creative team of six youth workers with a range of skills, and we look forward to welcoming a new youth worker to join us.


Key Responsibilities

  • Work flexibly to meet the needs of children, families and victims

  • Undertake complex assessments of children and families

  • Be responsible for developing practice and undertaking and implementing learning

  • Listen to and act upon children's voice to strive for the best outcomes

  • Lead on group work delivery

About You

To be considered for this role, you must have permanent rights to work within the UK, a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle.

  • Qualification level required - NVQ Level 3 or above, and significant experience of working with children (11+ years) and families.

  • Knowledge and experience of case management and group work with children and young people where vulnerabilities exist, including assessment and report writing and use of case management systems.

  • Experience of understanding the issues faced by vulnerable children and families with complex needs - including awareness of differing needs, adverse childhood experiences and trauma.

  • Knowledge and experience of gathering children's voice to contribute to assessments, formal reports and records within case management systems.

  • Evidence of developing, planning and implementing creative and innovative interventions tailored to meet the individual needs of children and young people, both in direct 1:1 working and in group settings.

  • Demonstrable experience of forming positive working relationships with a variety of professional partners and working collaboratively to meet the identified needs of children and their families.

  • Contribute to the protection of children from abuse in accordance with local and national safeguarding policies, procedures and practice - including comprehensive understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child.
