About the school

Essendene Lodge School is an independent Preparatory School and Nursery in Caterham, Surrey. The school caters for boys and girls aged 2 to 11, with a full time onsite nursery for children aged 2 to 4. It maintains a family friendly ethos and achieves strong entrance exam results at the end of Year 6. Small class sizes allow individual attention in every lesson, and pupils follow a varied curriculum that includes French, Music, Sports, Drama and Computing, together with activities such as Musical Theatre and Debating.

The role

Essendene Lodge School seeks a passionate and inspirational Year 1 Class Teacher for a fixed term contract from September 2026 to February 2027. The position is full time and based at the school in Essendene Road, Caterham, Surrey.

Key responsibilities

• Inspire children with enthusiasm and a love of learning by delivering high quality teaching that engages pupils.


• Prepare and plan for teaching, taking account of the requirements of children of all abilities.


• Prepare and develop teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and assessment, and pastoral arrangements.


• Provide feedback and guidance to pupils and their parents in an engaging way that encourages continuous learning at home.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).


• Evidence of continuing professional development.


• Sound knowledge of the requirements of the Key Stage 1 curriculum.


• Experience of teaching in Key Stage 1.


• A strength and passion for teaching this age group.


• Experience of teaching phonics (advantageous).


• All new staff are subject to enhanced DBS clearance, identity checks, qualification checks, employment checks, two satisfactory references and registration with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
