We have an exciting opportunity for a Workshop Manager with experience in prosthetics and orthotics manufacturing to join our team in Cambridge.
Opcare has provided prosthetic and orthotic services in Cambridge since 2003 and has recently been re-awarded the contract. The department is newly based in a purpose-built facility just to the south of Addenbrookes Hospital, a world-renowned hospital for trauma, cancer and vascular care. The facility has consultant care, amputee rehab and gait lab facilities. There is a complex mix of patients and extended practice clinics which provides a great opportunity to support in the delivery of a world-class service to these patients.
There is an on-site workshop with skilled staff providing a collaborative working approach to device design and manufacture, who require a leader to support with training, development and technical skills to enhance the abilities of our service.
This role provides an excellent opportunity to influence and improve the delivery within the service.
Key Responsibilities:- Oversee preparation, assembly, and delivery of prosthetic and orthotic devices in line with prescriptions and quality standards.
- Ensure all devices issued are functional, safe, and provided within agreed timescales.
- Assess prescriptions/works orders to confirm requirements and compliance with input from Clinicians as appropriate.
- Liaise with Clinician's to resolve quality issues, minimise delays, and reduce wastage.
- Lead, manage, and support workshop technicians, fostering a productive and skilled team environment.
- Assist with training and development of new technicians and encourage multi-skilling within the team.
- Oversee ordering, booking in/out, and correct issue of materials, components, and tools and monitor stock control.
- Previous work experience in the manufacture of prosthetic devices for use by amputees.
- Knowledge and technical understanding of prosthetic devices.
- High level of attention to detail, accuracy, and quality focus.
- Positive, proactive, and adaptable mindset, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Knowledge of the health, safety and quality requirements of a workshop environment
- Demonstrated professionalism commensurate with a healthcare environment.
- Full DBS clearance.
- Experience in training, coaching and mentoring teams to achieve excellent outcomes.
- Computer literate with a good level of general education.
- A management qualification is advantageous.
