For a job opening as predoctoral candidate in the NOMIS-funded project "Science for the People: Social Movements and Knowledge Production, 1960s-1990s", we are seeking two innovative and critical research personalities. You will become part of the Key Research Area History of Science at the Department of History and work closely with colleagues from Vienna as well as national and international networks. The position is limited to 20 months with the possibility of an extention by 20 more months, depending on futher funding. Your future tasks:You actively participate the research project "Science for the People", which has the following aspects: your main task is drafting, researching and completing a dissertation, in Vienna this includes signing a dissertation agreement with the faculty within the first 12-18 months, developing an independent profile, publishing and presentation activities. Furthermore, the candidates will be involved in organizing conferences and outreach activities. This is part of your personality:You have a good command of several fields within the history of science and/or the history of social movements, and an excellent command of present methodological developments.You have drafted a dissertation project for a knowledge-based history of social movements and political knowledge cultures in the German-speaking World, 1960s-1990s.Successful applicants will have a master's degree (or equivalent) in history or history of science or a related discipline (diploma must be available by the date of employment).During the initial period, fluency in German must be documented; spoken and written English is likewise important for the day-to-day work in our team.Familiarity with procedures and structures of a university are of advantage, as is experience abroad. What we offer:You will be employed for 30 hours/week.The contract will start on a mutually agreed date, 1 May 2026 at the earliest.The employment duration will be 20 + 20 months.The basic salary of EUR 3.776,10 (on a full-time basis) increases if we can credit professional experience.The workplace is Vienna, when not travelling for research and conferences.
