We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Clinical Specialist to join our Selby Wellbeing in Mind Team.

The Wellbeing in Mind Team are Mental Health and Wellbeing Support Teams (MHSTs) who work directly within education. This is in line with the government's priority to increase access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people within education settings.

The Clinical Specialist will provide clinical leadership to the team.

Main duties of the job

Our Wellbeing in Mind team has three core functions:

  • Support the development of a whole school or college approach to wellbeing, including the development and implementation of mental health and wellbeing policies, resources, campaigns, training, assemblies and PHSE curriculum.
  • Provide timely advice and consultation to education staff to build their skills and confidence in supporting the wellbeing needs of students/pupils, in both formal and informal ways.
  • Undertake direct assessments and interventions for young people within education using a low intensity service model, predominantly cognitive behavioural therapy.

Each function accounts for one third of the team's workload. The Clinical Specialist must manage time, prioritise demands and build relationships with a wide range of partners and stakeholders, working collaboratively to provide specialist mental health advice, training, guidance and consultation to staff in educational settings.

About us

The post holder will form part of a locality wide leadership team along with Team Managers and Clinical Leads, taking a lead role in developing clinical services within the broader local area.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registration with a relevant professional body (e.g., NMC, GMC, HCPC, Social Work England).
  • For nursing professions - recognised practice supervisor and/or practice assessor, clinical educator or equivalent.
  • Training in providing clinical supervision.
  • For other professions - evidence of training in clinical supervision of staff and ability to demonstrate competence in this area of practice.
  • All professions - postgraduate diploma (or above) in a subject relevant to the area of practice or willingness to work towards and achieve within 2 years.
  • Equivalent clinical experience to a Post Grad Diploma/master's level such as working as a Band 6 (or above) in a relevant clinical area with significant experience and evidence of relevant CPD.
Knowledge
  • Extensive knowledge of current issues relating to the health needs of patients in the field of practice, regionally and nationally.
  • Experience applying relevant legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act) in practice.
Experience
  • Substantial clinical experience working in a relevant specialist area in collaboration with service users, families and others, or transferable experience of similar settings willing to gain knowledge within the first 12 months.
  • Experience assessing and managing risk (harm to self, others and safeguarding).
  • Substantial experience working in a multi disciplinary team.
  • Involvement in quality improvement activities.
