Job Description

Job title: Weighbridge Administrator (Grade 4) Job Category: Building Services & Maintenance Hours per week: 37.50 Location: Docks Way, Newport, NP20 2NS, Newport City Council Pay: £13.26 per hour

Key Result Areas
  • To assist with the council obligations on tonnage data reporting linked to the environmental permit for the landfill site and tax obligations.
  • To deal with service requests from customers.
  • To review, update and communicate to customers the pricing structure and applicable rates and monitor customers are charged the correct rates.
  • To collate information and produce data reports from the Council systems in use suitable for performance monitoring and utilisation reports to support senior managers.
  • To follow existing accounting procedures for the control and reconciliation of income linked to the service area, including customer set up, issue of invoices and regular checks to verify integrity of data.
  • To liaise with internal departments and external organisations as needed.
  • To monitor the payment process, carrying out recovery where appropriate.
  • To ensure all orders are completed, schemes are coded to appropriate budget lines, and liaise with finance officers on income.
  • To work as part of the team to implement, maintain, monitor, and relay to site management for decisions on credit criteria and a credit vetting scheme to check availability and suitability of credit, in collaboration with Finance officers.
  • To liaise with customers who pay 'on account' and maintain credit balances, bringing any issues to the attention of the site management.
  • To monitor waste streams going in and out of site, chasing missing loads and ensuring weighbridge tickets tally up with those of the end destinations; this will also include monitoring tonnage sent in line with the targets/limits set up by the management team.
  • Ensure that all duty of care documents and other statutory notices are effectively and efficiently issued, dispatched, and filed as required.
  • To operate the weighbridge and ensure correct functioning of all weighbridge equipment and systems, ensuring all are kept in working order, including requests for regular software updates and replacement of obsolete equipment, and undertaking verification tests.
  • To be responsible for ensuring integrity of data captured.
ESSENTIAL Qualifications
  • Hold at least 5 GCSEs or equivalent qualification that supports the skills and abilities for the post, or be able to demonstrate substantial practical knowledge and experience applicable to the duties of this post.
  • Full current driving licence DESIRABLE
Experience and Knowledge
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety legislation.
  • Working knowledge of computer software packages.
  • Excel, Word and Outlook as a minimum DESIRABLE
  • Knowledge of Local Government services and operational service delivery.
  • Working knowledge of payment systems.
  • Proven experience of using online systems and computer packages to be able to support the role.
  • Have experience in the waste sector or demonstrate transferable experience.
  • Experience in operating payment and accountancy systems.
  • Experience in customer service environment and dealing with customer queries and complaints.
Aptitude & Skills
  • Ability to understand and ensure compliance with specifications, contract documentation and health and safety requirements DESIRABLE
  • Ability to work with others, both internally and externally, to improve service provision.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and effectively to a wide range of colleagues.
