Waterside Specialist (Volunteer Vegetation Works Monitor)

Volunteer required to support the Operations team in the monitoring of vegetation works along our canals as part of our cyclic maintenance programme. The role involves reviewing the vegetation works to monitor that they are completed and on target to meet programmed outputs.

Carry out quality audits on site using a mobile application to a predetermined frequency.

Ideally the volunteer will have a good understanding of the natural environment, be computer literate and have a methodical approach to planning works. This would be an ideal opportunity for persons wanting to use their skills or gain experience in a vegetation management environment.

Full training will be given, and works are flexible.

• Reviewing identified works from our maintenance plan
• Understanding of cyclic programme and monitoring
• Checking GIS for vegetation specification
• Walking the canal network, embankments and reservoirs
• Providing reports and information to Contracts Manager for programme

Our Waterside Specialists help maintain the sustainability of the waterways by giving higher levels of skills through their volunteering.

Volunteering with the Trust takes on many guises and welcomes people with specialist skills in a wide range of areas from practical to surveying, indoors and out. These skills may include working alongside existing specialists within the Trust or bringing skills that we don't currently have within our team. We have a wide range of skilled activities which you could be doing.

• Specialist heritage or environmental surveys and assessments
• Supporting major construction works (or stoppages)
• Carrying out CAATS (internal qualifications) assessing
• Doing Visitor Risk Assessments
• Maintaining specific pieces of equipment such as at our museums and attractions
• Safety and service inspections

This is a role for people with specialist skills in a range of professional disciplines. Whilst we can support people to learn more within the Trust, we're keen to welcome people who come with existing experience and skills that they're happy to give.
