Ward Sister/Charge Nurse IRU

The closing date is 04 December 2025.

We are seeking motivated and dynamic Band 6 Nurses to join our dedicated team on the Intestinal Rehabilitation Unit at St Mark's Hospital, the national bowel hospital.

The Intestinal Rehabilitation Unit is a specialist ward caring for patients with complex intestinal failure who often require parenteral nutrition, stoma and fistula care, and long term intravenous therapies. This is a fast paced, multidisciplinary environment where patient centred care, teamwork, and specialist clinical knowledge are key to delivering excellent outcomes.

As a Band 6 Nurse, you will play a crucial role in providing expert clinical care, supporting junior colleagues, and maintaining high professional standards. You will take charge of the ward in the absence of the Ward Manager and help deliver the Trust's key performance targets in acute and specialist care.

Provide and coordinate high quality nursing care for a defined group of patients during each shift. Take charge of the unit, ensuring the safe and effective running of the ward in the Ward Manager's absence. Support, supervise, and act as a mentor and assessor to students and junior nursing staff. Participate in teaching and professional development activities to support team learning.

  • Strong clinical background with experience in acute medical or specialist care.
  • Evidence of enhanced enteral or parenteral nutrition management and line care.
  • Ability to effectively lead shifts and support a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to developing self and others through teaching and mentorship.
