Hereward College is a unique further education college seeking a qualified financial leader to become their Vice Principal Finance & Resources, ensuring the maintenance of their strong financial position aligned with their outstanding provision.

Who we are

Located on a single campus in Tile Hill, Coventry, Hereward College has been providing specialist education to learners with special educational needs and disabilities since 1972. Currently rated as Good by Ofsted (2023), with Outstanding student behaviour & attitudes and provision for learners with high needs.

We serve a national catchment, recruiting both residential and day learners, with around 340 young people aged 16+ enrolled, including 10 residents. Our curriculum includes various pathways, alongside opportunities like work experience, career support, and independent living skills.

Recognized nationally for SEND provision, 44% of our learners progress into paid employment, surpassing national averages by over 35%.

About the role

To sustain our high-quality provision and support for learners and their families, we need to uphold our outstanding financial health (Department for Education rating). With a turnover of approximately £13m, increasing annually, the role involves safeguarding finances while exploring new revenue streams and innovative growth opportunities.

The Vice Principal Finance & Resources will join our senior leadership team, reporting to the Principal & CEO, and oversee financial health, management information, data protection & GDPR, HR, accommodation, and audit. The role includes managing four direct reports and leading a team of around 10 staff to ensure smooth daily operations.

The successful candidate will contribute to strategic initiatives, including estate development and expanding our national partnerships and subsidiary. They will also work closely with our Board of Governors, led by Chair Pat Dyson, comprising 14 members, including 10 independent experts.

Who we are looking for

We seek a motivated, approachable, and confident finance professional aligned with our values and passionate about working with learners. Experience in FE is not essential, but understanding of financial climate, funding, and income streams is advantageous. The ability to build relationships with stakeholders and identify funding opportunities is crucial.
