Rail Rolling Stock Widnes, Cheshire Contract Positions Available We are currently recruiting for experienced Vehicle Preppers / Polishers to join a leading client within the rail rolling stock industry based at their busy facility in Widnes, Cheshire.
This is an excellent opportunity to work on exciting rail refurbishment and overhaul projects within a professional engineering environment.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work on one of two active projects on site, with both day shift and rotating shift options available.
Shift Patterns- Permanent Days (project anticipated end date beginning of August 2026)
- Monday to Friday - 07:00am - 16:30pm (Rotating Shift Pattern - project anticipated end date end of October 2026)
- Days: Monday to Friday - 06:00am - 16:30pm
- Nights: Sunday to Wednesday - 19:00pm - 05:30am
- Rotating every 2 weeks
As a Vehicle Prepper / Polisher, you will play a key role in ensuring rolling stock vehicles are prepared and finished to a high cosmetic standard prior to delivery. You will be responsible for polishing, sanding, surface preparation, and finishing activities to achieve a high-quality finish across a range of rail vehicles. Working within a skilled team, attention to detail and pride in workmanship will be essential to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare vehicle surfaces for polishing and finishing activities
- Use specialist polishing equipment, compounds, and tools to achieve a high-quality finish
- Inspect vehicle surfaces for scratches, imperfections, blemishes, and defects
- Carry out polishing and buffing activities to restore and enhance vehicle appearance
- Perform sanding and surface preparation work as required
- Select the correct polishing compounds and techniques based on paint type and surface finish
- Mask and protect sensitive vehicle areas during preparation and polishing processes
- Operate polishing equipment safely and effectively to ensure consistent results
- Work collaboratively with team members to meet production and quality targets
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and health & safety within the work area
- Previous experience in vehicle prepping, polishing, paint preparation, or finishing
- Experience working within rail, automotive, aerospace, or heavy engineering environments is desirable
- Ability to use polishing tools, sanding equipment, and associated preparation materials
- Excellent attention to detail and quality standards
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong awareness of health & safety practices within a workshop environment
- Flexible attitude towards shift working where applicable
