A leading accountancy practice in London is seeking a VAT Assistant Manager to join its growing VAT and Indirect Tax team.

This is a pivotal role within a dynamic practice, ideal for a CTA-qualified accountant with VAT experience looking to advance their advisory and managerial skills.

The Role

• Provide technical advice on a wide range of VAT and Indirect Tax matters, supported by legislation, case law and technical analysis
• Liaise with clients and colleagues, offering guidance and practical solutions
• Represent clients in correspondence and negotiations with HMRC
• Plan and manage assignments, ensuring high-quality, timely and budgeted delivery
• Conduct VAT health checks and in-depth reviews of client systems to ensure compliance and efficiency
• Support a wide range of clients, from private individuals to large corporates, with practical VAT application
• Assist with demand-led VAT queries across the business
• Promote the VAT advisory service both internally and externally
• Deal with HMRC correspondence, telephone calls, and enquiries
• Provide general support to the VAT team as required

Candidate Profile

• CTA-qualified (essential)
• Minimum 6 months post-qualified VAT experience, ideally within a VAT team
• Experience providing VAT advisory services in practice or industry
• Strong technical, analytical, and commercial skills
• Ability to exercise good judgement and manage risk
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Organised and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Confident, tactful, and discreet professional manner
• Strong team player, but able to work independently
• Proactive "can-do" attitude with a positive outlook
• IT proficient and quick to learn new systems
• Full UK driving licence to travel between offices
