Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic and compassionate qualified Nurse/Paramedic to join our busy GP surgery in Barnstaple. We would ideally like ANP/Prescribing Nurse (although not essential as training opportunities will be available). We are looking for someone that is interested in working in our Urgent Care Team managing patients that have acute symptoms and need to have advice and contact on the day.

This is a permanent role, initially covering a colleagues maternity leave for 12 months but will then be an extra member of the team to further build the urgent care team service for the Practice.

Hours for this role will be 26 hours per week over 3 days (Tuesdays 8.15am - 6pm, Thursdays 8.15am - 6pm and Fridays 8.30am - 6pm).

This working pattern of the 26 hours per week will alter after the 12 months maternity leave has finished and will be based on the needs of the Practice and Urgent Care Team at that time.

Pay £21.00 to £24.60 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be an experienced Nurse/Paramedic who acting within their professional boundaries, will provide care for the presenting patient from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care.

They will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care for patients within the general practice.

They will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary general practice team to meet the needs of the patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required.

To work at this level, Health Professional Registration requirements for advanced practice must be met or being worked on. Working as an autonomous practitioner as part of the practice team of nurses and doctors the post holder will deliver face-to-face consultations, telephone advice/triage and arrange home visits as required. They will be expected to see patients independently, diagnose and treat within the setting of the practice.

The post holder is expected to prescribe medicines and products, as appropriately trained and within own scope of practice where a prescribing qualification is held. If no prescribing qualification is held the practice will support the post holder in gaining this qualification.

The post holder will contribute to developing, implementing policies, standards and guidelines within own sphere of practice. They will contribute to the development of students and staff. They will promote the health, safety and security of individuals, groups and colleagues.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered Practice Nurse/Paramedic.
Experience
  • Experience of working within a Nursing Team.
  • Knowledge of Primary Care.
  • Experience of using TPP SystmOne (electronic medical record system).
