Job Description

Join Barclays' UK Corporate Credit Risk team in London, playing a key role in supporting the Bank's strategic growth in Project Finance and Infrastructure sectors.

The role is responsible for independent credit assessment, approval and ongoing monitoring of project finance transactions, ensuring risks are identified, mitigated and managed within appetite.

You will engage proactively with Business (First Line of Defence) and lead credit processes for complex transactions, approve exposures within delegated authority, prepare recommendations for senior sanctioning, and contribute to portfolio oversight, strategic risk initiatives and projects.

Responsibilities
  • Analyse, recommend and approve project finance and infrastructure credit proposals, including assessment of business, financial, structural and collateral risks
  • Review, challenge and interpret detailed project cash flow models, assumptions and stress scenarios
  • Set, recommend and monitor internal ratings, LGD and other key credit parameters
  • Solid understanding of the drivers, opportunities and challenges of the project finance markets and relevant regulatory environment affecting the project
  • Lead credit processes for complex transactions and present cases to senior forums/approvers
  • Define and monitor risk appetite at counterparty and portfolio level
  • Familiarity with derivative transactions and related exposure in project finance
  • Monitor portfolio performance, sector trends and early warning indicators, escalating material risks as appropriate
  • Ensure strong governance, policy compliance and accurate risk reporting throughout the credit lifecycle
  • Contribute to portfolio reviews and broader strategic initiatives within the Risk function
Qualifications
  • Good experience in Project Finance / Infrastructure credit risk within an international banking environment
  • Strong commercial and credit judgement, with the ability to independently assess and challenge complex transactions
  • In depth understanding of project finance structures, documentation, intercreditor arrangements, security packages, derivatives and common risk mitigants
  • Proven ability to analyse and challenge complex financial models (advanced Excel skills) including stress and downside scenarios
  • Sound knowledge of regulatory requirements, credit governance and controls
  • Broad appreciation of non financial risks, including reputational, financial crime, cyber and geopolitical risk
  • Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills, with confidence to challenge constructively and engage senior decision makers
  • Timely and effective problem solving and decision making skills
  • Relevant academic or professional qualifications
Accountabilities
  • Analysis of lending applications, financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant documents to assess the borrower's creditworthiness and repayment capacity.
  • Monitoring the performance of approved lending, identifying potential risks and early warning signs of delinquency.
  • Evaluation of the risk profile of each application considering factors like industry trends, borrower financials, collateral, and market conditions.
  • Provision of independent credit decisions on lending applications, adhering to established credit policies, risk parameters, and regulatory requirements.
  • Development and implementation of appropriate course of action for troubled lending, including workout plans, restructuring, or collections.
