Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2 within UCD School of Mathematics and Statistics

The Research Ireland Co-Centre Climate+ for Climate, Biodiversity and Water is a €41.3 million research centre, initially funded for six years by the Government of Ireland (Research Ireland and Shared Island Fund); the Northern Ireland Department of Agriculture, Environment & Rural Affairs; and UK Research & Innovation. In addition, the project has obtained more than 30% co-funding from over 30 industry partners. The Co-Centre is one of the first international centres to bring together researchers across Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain at scale. The Co-Centre will address challenges around maintaining a stable and liveable climate, securing and restoring biodiversity and the ecosystem services provided by nature, adapting to climate change, and reversing water degradation, which require collaborative cross-border approaches. This Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 post is funded by the Climate+ Co-Centre ( ). The successful candidate for this role will be based in the UCD School of Mathematics and Statistics and will work on adapting and extending state-of-the art LLMs to support trustworthy synthesis of scientific evidence. The role involves evaluating and fact checking the outputs of LLMs and integrating them with manual and AI-generated labels to assign quantifiable confidence limits to each finding. Emphasis will be placed on ensuring transparency through citation of source material and developing methods to quantify statistical uncertainty in generated outputs. The post holder will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team across the Co-Centre to develop tools capable of supporting evidence assessments with a level of rigour and clarity comparable to that used by the IPCC.

PD1 Salary: €47,273 - €53,925 per annum or PD2 Salary: €55,399 - €60,250 per annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

The PD1 position is intended for early stage researchers, either just after completion of a PhD or for someone entering a new area for the first time. If you have already completed your PD1 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD1, or you are an external applicant whose total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 4 years, you should not apply and should refer to PD2 posts instead. The PD2 post is intended for researchers that have completed PD1. As with the PD1, if you have already completed your PD2 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD2, or your total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 6 years, you should not apply and refer to Research Fellow posts instead.
