Job Description

If you're looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

We're one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We're currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Trustee Pensions Legal Counsel.

You'll combine deep pensions expertise with strategic influence, advising the Trustee on complex legal risk while playing a visible role in scheme governance and member outcomes.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you'll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you will:

  • Act as the trusted legal adviser to the Trustee Board and Pension Scheme Executive, providing clear, pragmatic advice on pensions law, governance and legal risk
  • Own Pension legal risk end-to-end, ensuring that the Scheme operates within regulatory requirements and agreed risk appetite
  • Lead on complex legal matters, including member complaints, IDRP cases, Ombudsman complaints, managing contracts and regulatory disclosures, and trustee decision-making
  • Manage and instruct external counsel to ensure high quality advice, cost control and value for money
  • Influence and support senior stakeholders to maintain high standards and sound outcomes for members

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • UK Qualified Solicitor with strong experience in pensions law, ideally gained within financial services, Trustee or advisory environment
  • Confidence to advise at senior and Board level, translating complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance
  • A strong commercial judgment, balancing legal risk with practical business and Trustee objectives
  • Experienced in managing legal risk and external counsel, including budgeting, negotiation, and contract oversight.
  • Evidence of credible, collaborative stakeholder management
Opening up a world of opportunity.
