Willen Hospice is seeking a compassionate andexperienced healthcare professional to join our Board as a Clinical BoardMember. This is a unique opportunity to contribute your expertise in clinicalgovernance, quality assurance, and patient-centred care to support our missionof providing exceptional end-of-life care in our community.

Main duties of the jobThe Role
As a Clinical Board Member, you will:
- Support us in fully representing the growth and diversity of our city and surrounding areas.
- Offer strategic oversight and expert advice on clinical matters.
- Support the Board and Executive Team in ensuring high standards of care, safety, and governance.
- Help shape the future direction of our services in a challenging healthcare environment.
- Serve as an ambassador for Willen Hospice, representing us at events and helping grow our network and influence.
Set in the tranquil grounds of Willen Lake, Willen Hospice is the leading provider of specialist palliative care in the Milton Keynes area. We offer round-the-clock, expert care to local patients with a life-limiting illness, both in their own homes and in our In-Patient Unit. Our passionate staff and volunteers make sure our care is personalised to each patients needs and supports their loved ones too. We have a thriving Therapeutic & Wellbeing service providing counselling, physiotherapy, activity groups and more, and a specialist Lymphoedema service.Our dedicated Business Development teams and retail portfolio of shops raise vital funds to deliver this care.
Job responsibilities- Agree and review the strategic aims of the organisation.
- Uphold the Willen Hospice values.
- Ensure that the policy and practices of the organisation are in keeping with its aims.
- Ensure that the organisation functions within legal and financial requirements and strives to achieve best practice.
- Uphold the Articles of Association for the Charity.
- Promote the work of the hospice in the community being an ambassador for the hospice.
- Oversee the leadership, management and administration of the charity ensuring good governance and adherence to Charity rules and regulations.
- Act as a supportive / critical friend to the Director of Clinical Services and other members of the clinical leadership team.
- Work closely with fellow Clinical Board members.
- Support and hold to account the Clinical Director for all areas of clinical activity and governance.
- Be an active member of the Board in exercising its responsibilities and functions.
- Maintain good relations with hospice staff/volunteers.
- Take part in training sessions provided for the benefit of the Board members and complete mandatory training.
- Act in the best interest of the hospice.
- Accountability comply with the law on all occasions in such a way as to preserve public confidence.
- Attend Committee and Board meetings on a regular basis.
- Attend Board member away-days.
- Attend hospice events and visit hospice shops.
- Participate in the Board Induction Programme.
- Support the CEO in appointing members of the Executive team.
- Significant experience in clinical practice, quality improvement, or healthcare leadership.
- A genuine understanding of the challenges and opportunities in palliative or end-of-life care.
- Registration as a healthcare professional (e.g. doctor, nurse, allied health professional)
