Job Description
Job Overview

Role: Research Fellow - Renal Transplant Surgery, Leeds Teaching Hospitals.

Contract: 12 month initial with potential extension based on progression. Start date October 2026.

Core duties: protected research time (minimum 20 h per week) plus senior clinical responsibilities on the renal transplant rota (1:6), elective and emergency general surgery, hepatobiliary and abdominal sarcoma services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and conduct research projects in collaboration with the University of Leeds and other collaborating investigators.
  • Apply for and manage research funding and grant applications.
  • Attend and contribute to the departmental teaching programme.
  • Provide clinical care: operate theatres, outpatient clinics, ward rounds, and participate in the 1:6 on call rota.
  • Maintain patient safety and comply with NHS Trust policies and GMC Good Medical Practice.
Requirements
  • Medical degree (MBBS/MBChB) and full GMC registration.
  • At least registrar level general surgical training with demonstrated interest in research.
  • Experience in organ retrieval, transplantation or hepatobiliary surgery is desirable.
  • Ability to register for a higher degree (PhD/MD) at the University of Leeds.
  • Good communication skills in English.
